Chris built our nephew, Carter, a miniature sized picnic bench for his 1st Birthday using free plans he found online.
The deal was that Chris would build the table and I would paint it and we'd both be able to participate in making Carter's gift.
I'll be honest with you, I was dreading having to paint all the little gaps and corners.
So it was serendipitous that I read Danielle's post on the subject just before heading out to Home Depot to pick up my paint supplies. $70 bucks spent on a new sprayer, some bright red exterior paint and I was in business.
Not only was this the funnest "chore" I've done in a while, but I had the whole thing painted in less than 20 minutes. Maybe it was only 15 minutes. I don't know exactly but it was really speedy.
It was also really easy to use. The precision of the paint stream was really remarkable. No cloud of paint like you get with a can of spray paint!
and no horrible spray paint fumes.
I can't even begin to tell you what a time saver this will be for future Hazardous Design projects!
Eventually Carter will learn that that he's supposed to sit at the table and not stand on it :)
By the way, I'm guest posting today over at Room Rx as part of Cathy's Fresh Fabric Fridays series. My subject? The beautiful, vintagey, outrageous florals of Designer's Guild. Head on over and take a look!

How dreamy! I would be painting everything in sight if I had one. Your table looks great!
This looks great! you are a talented painter and Chris is a talented woodworker. Glad your experience was better than Benita's at Chez Larson...she seemed to have had a horrible time!
Oooh a new toy! That is awesome and such a great gift idea for a first birthday (might have to steal that idea). Love how shiny and glossy the table looks too. Heading over to check out your guest post.
Oooo, this looks fun! Is it hard to clean up?
The table is cute too!! Our niece and nephew both have a mini-table. They actually work good for vacations/family gatherings because it gives extra seating for the little ones...we just have to keep the dog from stealing eye level food.
You look like a pro with that paint gun and the table looks fantastic. Nothing wrong with standing on it while you can still get away with it.
Looks great!! What a nice gift. I need to get one of those!
I love living in the city but there are so many things that I miss and one of them is having the space to use a paint gun like this- woah I'm sold already. I want one like, yesterday!
love it! i do not have a sprayer, so you are livin; the dream, baby!
Remember the days when we would be envious of each other because of exotic vacations, new Louis Vuitton bags or the cutest boyfriend. Now I'm envious because of your paint sprayer! Love it. Off to check you out.
I'm going to send this post to my sister and brother-in-law and ask when exactly will our little red picnic table arrive.
Seriously, that is a pretty special, thoughtful gift and I bet your nephew will use it for years. I'm wondering what you'll be painting next...
How fun! The spray gun looks awesome... I might have to save up for one. And the table is adorable esp with that umbrella!
ps. the nephew is cute too! haha!
That's so awesome! I want a sprayer now! :)
Wow - you guys did a really nice, professional looking job. Makes me happy to see that b/c when it comes time to strip and paint the kitchen cabinets (egads!), there's going to have to be some spray action involved.
I want one too
Super cute! I love the fire engine red! Such a great project!
Ooooh. One more fun gadget to ask for for xmas. What a cute picnik table. Your nephew is a lucky boy.
As the mom of the proud owner of this picnic table I wanted to say what a great gift this was. We've only had it for a week but it has been exposed to heat, sun and a thunderstorm with hail already and it still looks great. Not sure if its the paint, the sprayer or the painter, we'll say the last one. Anyway great job guys, we love it. Can you stain our deck with that thing? Just kidding, kind of.
That is such a great gift! He will definitely get some mileage out of that one! And it's so adorable! I'm once again totally impressed with you and Chris' DIY mad skills...Amazing!
What an adorable table! I love the bright red color and am SOOOO jealous of you paint sprayer!
SUCH a sweet little table! We bought a paint sprayer MONTHS ago and I still haven't used it... because I can't decide on paint colors and apparently it doesn't make those decisions for you, like I'd hoped?
How fabulous that you and Chris were able to collaborate on such a creative and useful gift. Clearly the spray gun was an inspired purchase. I'm not particularly handy so I can especially appreciate what a great job you did. I'll pop on over to see you at Room Rx. Have a great weekend.
OOH...I love please tell me how hard it was to clean the spray gun after you used it. Have you used it a second time with a different color. What model did you get. I want one !!
No paint fumes? Sold!
Best. Gift. Ever. Sign me up for the next one. :)
oooh! 20 minutes?! Painting furniture usually takes me for.ever. Maybe I'll have to look into one of those...
Wow- great job! I also saw Danielle's post about a paint sprayer. And now with you saying how easy and fast it was- I might just have to try it! I have always wondered about using one. The table set looks amazing. Great job!
Table looks great!

Great job. I am digging your sprayer and may need to get my hands on one at some point too.
