Chris and I made a ton of progress in the family room over the weekend. Like I mentioned last week, Chris started beefing up the existing crown molding.
He's not quite finished yet, so more to come on that next week.
In the meantime, I caulked and prepped the walls for wallpaper using a product recommended by our wallpaper guy.
I had it tinted to the shade of the grasscloth we're using. It isn't an exact match, but it is close enough so that if wall shows through the seams over time, it won't be obvious.
Let me tell you how nice it is to not be looking at the skim coat anymore. It is starting to actually look like a room now!
But the highlight of our weekend was painting the fireplace.
It would have gone a lot faster if Georgia hadn't tried to help...
I used "Rock Bottom"by Sherwin Williams in an eggshell finish. (I'll need to use a sealer on the mantel so that it will be easy to clean.) I love the way it turned out. Dark and sophisticated.
Beacon Hill Brownstone Chic here we come!

Once that skim coat goes away it is like a breath of fresh air - it's looking really good already. I love the fireplace painted black! I bet you are chomping at the bit to get that wallpaper up too - I can't wait to see it!
Perfection, Carrie! What a difference a little bit of color makes--and I can't imagine how great the room will look once the grasscloth is up.
The fireplace will be a nice contrast with the grasscloth that you're going to use.
You dog is adorable!
LOVE the brick in black! it looks soooo good!
Good choice on the fireplace color. I'm glad Georgia loves it too!
Love the dark fireplace - white always seems like the obvious choice, but this is different and makes a great statement.
You guys are really making progress! The dark fireplace is amazing, and the grasscloth wall paper is gonna rock! Keep those progress updates coming!

The room is coming along and the fireplace looks great. I see you have the same mantel decor we use after a hard weekend ;)
Wow..the room is truly going to look magnificent! Love the contrast of the fireplace color against the walls which will have texture as well with the grasscloth. Amazing progress!
Oh it looks fantastic, Carrie!!! Infinitely more attractive than mine with the glossy paint! You are totally inspiring me to abandon my current projects and go get some eggshell paint this moment!!
The first thing I did this morning wad check out your blog to see what kind of progress you guys made over the week end. WOW! I don't exactly know what I was expecting, but your energy, enthusiasm and vision for your family room project far surpassed what I was thinking I would see today. I can't believe how much you accomplished in a two day week-end. It is looking absolutely fabulous! Great job BOTH of you!
What a big difference the primer made - it is going to look amazing.
The fireplace looks awesome, Carrie!! Definitely a sophisticated focal point now. Can't wait to see it with the grass cloth - amazing how much better it looks with just the tinted primer. Lol at Georgia, she is so cute!!!!
Yay! You painted it black! So proud, Carrie. Really. That's not an easy thing to do. I'm glad you are happy with the results because I think it looks fantastic.
So, I have a few questions about your couch as we are in the market for one. I'm going to email you about it.
I love how the fireplace turned out! That color is *awesome*! And it looks like you have *two* very good helpers! (c:
I love the fireplace! I am excited to see the grass cloth!
It's really coming along nicely! Love the color of the walls! :)
I can already tell by the black fireplace alone it's going to look amazing! can't wait to see more :)
That was a very brave move to paint the fireplace black but it looks amazing. Can't wait for the grasscloth to go up!!
YUMMY! I am loving this color-- almost a deep deep charcoal. And the grasscloth is going to be incredible. The room's already feeling warm and inviting!
It looks gorgeous! What a great job- I love the dark color you chose. The room is really coming together. :)
Wow....this room is coming together...can not wait to see it finished.
Not sure how I missed this post, but I'm glad I looked at some of your old posts. I love the dark fireplace. It's going to have so much pop against the new grasscloth color!
