Good Reads

On Wednesday I mentioned that I had read Restoring a House in the City and learned that I'd been in one of the homes featured in the book (btw, I like the room better painted brown, however the blue version was quite striking in person).
Restoring a House in the City was actually one of five books I purchased for myself recently.
Maybe I'm late to this "discovery", but did you know that you can purchase hardcover decorating books from Amazon sellers for just pennies? The catch is that they are used and you may have to do a little digging to find them.  Don't expect to find newer titles that cheap either.

Here's what I got on my book binge:

My total for all 5 including shipping was under 40 bucks.

Do you collect decorating books? Please share your favorites!

Wow, great buys. I've only just started buying decorating books. I like your source (and price) better than mine though. I purchased:
-House Beautiful 500 Ways to Create
Your Ideal Home
-House Beautiful The Finishing Touch
-House Beautiful 750 Designer Secrets
I'm sensing a theme here. Will definitely check out your books though.

I actually don't read design books. Maybe I should start! You'll have to tell me your favorites when you're done. Happy almost week-end!!

Wow- you got great deals! I will definitely have to check out amazon. New decorating books are too expensive! I just recently got 'Black and White and a Bit in Between' by Celerie Kemble. I love it! It was a Christmas gift, but for the rest of the year, I will have to search amazon! :) I think I'll also check out Nate and Thom's books!

Is the website the same as Half.com? I've ordered books from there for a few bucks and it's great. Oh, how is the Thom Filicia book? I've been a fan of his since I first saw him on Queer Eye - remember that show? I really love the Domino book, do you have that one? I also would love to get Celerie Kemble's Black and White book at some point.

I was at tjmaxx the other day and spied the "Undecorate" book. It was a little beat up but they wouldn't give me a discount. Call me cheap but I decided I would check Amazon before paying 25 bucks for it. :) Amazon is my go to place for books too!

I love Home Rules. It was the first decorating book that I ever purhased and I've been known to look through it regularly! I'm definitely going to check out these other books!

I like design books to read, browse and then to leave them out. They usually have great spines or covers. I'm liking the Design*Sponge book and anything coastal (even though I don't live by the coast ;))

That is a screaming deal! A few of my favorites are Tricia Guild's Pattern and anything in the House Beautiful series as well as Susan Sargent's books. Lately what I love to do is sample the books by checking them out from the library and then purchasing if they inspire me.

I collect decorating books like nobodies business- its a problem really. I have all the ones you listed here and I love them- other favorites are Mary McDonald, Katie Ridder, any Martha book of course, Celerie Kemble, Domino, any Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler- I could go on and on- they might all be my favorites :)

Thanks for the great titles! I like to read them, then use them as decorations. :) 40 bucks for all of those is a fantastic steal!

I love to look at books and mags in real life (in addition to the Pinterest obsession!) Great scores on Amazon!

Enjoy your new books! I always try shopping on Amazon.com, because the rices look so cheap... until I review my order and see my postage cost to Australia. At that point I usually give up or buy the Kindle version.

Hi Carrie! Wow, thanks for the great tip. This could prove to be an issue for me. I recently got Matthew Smyth's new book and was shocked how much I learned by reading one designer's philosophy -- and looking for commonalities in his designs. Large format pictures in these books cannot compare with ones you see in pictures, don't you think?

Would love to get a review of some of these books after you read them.

I had no idea you could get them for that cheap! I am a huge amazon fan and love prime! I've been recently enjoying Design Sponge and the Perfectly Imperfect Home.

I can't believe how little all those books cost you! I have Thom's book and love it. One of my other favorites is Sheila Bridges' Furnishing Forward. I don't buy too many these days, but at some point I'm sure I'll get back to collecting.
