I neglected to formally make any resolutions this year, but you can be sure that getting projects done on Hazard Ave is high on my list. That and keeping myself sane while doing it.
Speaking of projects, I've withheld pictures of our finished family room from you for far too long. So now without further ado here are the before and afters.
Before...
After.
Before...
After...
Before...
After.
Before...
After.
We splurged on a sofa from Lee Industries. The coffee table, aluminum accent table, and side chair were thrift store scores. The antique rug was an online find.
The artwork is gallery of photographs I took on trips to Jamaica, Block Island, and Cape Cod.
A year ago, we converted the fireplace to gas, so all we needed to do during the reno was paint it. We chose "Rock Bottom" by Sherwin Williams. The wallpaper is by Decorator Grasscloth.
The Hot House Flowers pillows were an Etsy purchase, and the chair was reupholstered in Betwixt. Both fabrics are from Celerie Kremble's line for Schumacher and can be purchased here.
How's that for starting 2012 with a bang?
(p.s. a special thank you to Casey who helped with the original design!)

So lovely, I really like the warm colours and the different patterns. And I think i see a glimpse of the painted buttlers pantry?

Love it!! It looks perfect! That grasscloth adds the perfect texture to the space.
It looks so nice! That fireplace makes the room so cozy. I love the idea of taking pictures of the water from different vacation spots. :)

That looks awesome! I love the couch and coffee table. And the pillow fabric. And the fireplace paint color :) As you can tell I think it looks great :)
Completely swoon-worthy and fabulous! I love the combo of the Hot House and Betwixt fabrics and of course that amazing rug. Beautiful work!!
Carrie, I literally gasped at the first after shot. Y'all did a fantastic job. This is a magazine spread if I ever saw one.
looks great!
Ahhhhh! Gorgeous! So warm and pulled together!!!!!
Please come over and redecorate my house. Thank you.
oh my gosh fantastic work! I am so jealous that you got that coffee table at a thrift store! Love the color you chose for the walls and fireplace. My parents painted their brick fireplace black and I love the look.
Gasp. And that room is huge.
Love! You guys did an amazing job!
Bam! What a way to start the year!! The room looks fabulous, so cozy yet chic. The colours and textures have really brought the room to life. Well done!
WOWZA, this was worth the wait... BEAUTIFUL! I love how all the deep rich colors and neutrals came together, the gallery wall, still can't get over that rug! I've said this before and will say it again...you guys are REALLY REALLY good :)
Happy 2012!
I really love this look - it's eclectic and classic at the same time. I don't know which part is my favorite...the wall paper or the fireplace or the rug or the sofa. All of it together really. Great job!
It looks great! I honestly can't put a finger on my favorite thing, although I think way you extended the soffit (?) comes in pretty high on the list. And that grasscloth is just yummy. What a fun way to start the year!
Happy New Year, Carrie!!! So excited to finally see the pics of this room - it was worth the wait!! It's really lovely, such a unique style. Love the mix of patterns and prints. Its crazy how much of a difference just having those floor length drapes makes, huh?! My 2 favorite things are the wallpaper and the fireplace. Painting it dark made it such a focal point. There's definitely a sense of history here mixed with a fresh, young vibe. So happy for you guys!!
Its hard to believe you could accomplish more on the house in '12 that you did in 2011!!
It's so pretty!! Good work blog buddy!
The whole room looks GREAT!! Love the mix of traditional and modern! Your did a beautiful job!!
Just lovely! Great wallpaper and love those photographs you took!!

So I literally gasped at your after photos! I love your use of colour and pattern, and the fireplace is sexy. haha You should be so proud of yourself!
Gorgeous! I'm loving all of it! It looks so magazine worthy, but comfy at the same time. That's tough to pull off. I'm glad you waited to reveal your fireplace since that was a nice surprise. Great color! OK, I'm ready to see another room. Get to work! :)
Oh wow. It looks fantastic! You guys did an amazing job! Well done. It looks like it's right out of the pages of a design mag! And love your puppy posing on the couch!
I love that you painted the fireplace. It all looks amazing!
Holy crap, my jaw just hit my desk- it looks amazing!!! What a before and after that is- love love love it!
I saw the title of the post and was so excited! It looks spectacular Carrie and was well worth the wait. I bet you guys really enjoyed hanging out in here over the holidays. It's so inviting - especially with the fire going. I love the new look of the fireplace and the photos from your travels are so unique and special. I think you've accomplished your goal of Beacon Hill Brownstone Chic - it's beautiful! Do I spy the House Beautiful Blue book on your coffee table? Would love to know your thoughts on it if you've had time to browse.
I have been following your renovation and everything looks wonderful.........except....*treads carefully.......I am not loving the look of the rug with everything else. Just one opinion from one subscriber. The walls, the gallery wall arrangement, the pillows and fabrics, sofa shape and modern coffee table....ALL FAB!!!!!!
Ooooooh aaaaahhhhhh :) Looks fantastic!!! I love the grasscloth so much - it's so warm and cozy. Great job!

Carrie and Chris! The outcome of your hard work is absolutely fantastic. Love how you connected so many details making the room cozy and stylish. The water photo gallery is awesome! Super job!
Unbelievable! Even though I saw all the steps along the way, I am stunned at the final outcome. Just beautiful! Happy New Year!
Absolutely spectacular! Wow, wow, wow :) x
Very impressive changes. The fireplace looks AMAZING now and I really love your artwork. I came over via Rambling Renovators (you & I are both "Great Reads" - isn't that wildly flattering?) and I'm happy I stopped by.
Holy cow what a beautiful room! That sofa is to DIE for! I have been wanting one just like with the same arms, legs, and pale blue velvet fabric...swoon. We don't need it anytime soon but a girl can dream. I know you did a sofa post a while back so I'll have to go back and see where you got it. Please update us on how it holds up/has held up when you get a chance!
Carrie:
I've wandered over from a blog we both visit and found your living room changes. Very nice in deed. I particulary like the pictures of different waters. What a fresh idea, I may have to steal it. I don't normally care for painted brick, but, the look of your black brick fire place is outstanding! The new walls contrast nicely with the white trim. The acrylic coffee table is somewhat unexpected in relation to the other furnishings, but a very nice redo all in all.

Oh shoot, I missed the big reveal day! Well, what can I say- it's gorgeous! You've successfully interpreted brownstone chic into your very own space! So fun watching the entire process. Happy New Year- I can't wait to see what's next.
Awesome, amazing and AHHH! I love it sooo much, Carrie! You guys did an amazing job and put so much work into it. Now it's time to sit back, flip the switch on the fireplace, and enjoy!!
I can't believe I wasn't first in line to say "OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMGGGGGG!" Awesome, amazing, fabulous, chic to the max, fantabulous! I *LOVE* seeing the whole thing all together! You two crazy kiddos pull it off every time (c:
It looks so inviting, I could really just grab a glass of wine and a good book and feel quite comfy. As much as I love neutral rooms seeing yours reminded me how much color makes a room look homey. Well done, all your hard work really paid off.
I am speechless! I have seen it all come together over the past few months but to see it all in the room together is amazing..you should both be very proud - very warm and inviting..the walls are amazing, the reupholstered chair, rug, artwork..everything. Congratulations!
Simply fabulous! Love the Schumacher fabrics and the lucite coffee table! Simply divine!
I found my way here from Remodel-aholic and so glad I did! This room is incredible - i love the black fireplace and your thrift store finds look so high end in your room! Really wonderful :)
What a warm and wonderful transformation. I can't decide if I like the curtains or your new amazing couch best, but all of the details are really nice. You knocked this one out of the park!
Camille
Awesome transformation!!

Love the modern touches in the old house! I renovated (total gut) a 100 year old house recently - hope you can stop by and check it out!

I love the colors! Everyone seems to be about a paler palette now, but I love your choice of colors. Well done!!
I found you from Kim at Savvy Southern Style. Your room is fabulous. That rug is gorgeous!
Penny
Coming from Kims and wow what a great transformation...is that Beacon Hill in Seattle? If so we are neighbors and I believe that is my dog Spanky on your couch :)
The living room makeover is beautiful; I especially like the new wall covering.
Samara
Absolutely gorgeous and magazine worthy! Love your style.
Love it!! As you can tell I'm catching up on your blog. Curious - how do you like your lee industries sofa? Is it worth the splurge?? Is it comfortable? When we get back to the US, I'll be on the market for a new sofa and I've always loved lee industries, but have never owned anything from them.
Thanks, Fran. We love it. It is deep and comfortable and perfect for napping. My dog has puked on the fabric and it cleaned up nicely. Can't ask for anything else really :)
BAM!!!! What a gorgeous room.....after all of your hard work it is truly to die! I love everything about it!
