Our "Beacon Hill Brownstone Chic" Family Room Revealed!

Happy New Year!
I neglected to formally make any resolutions this year, but you can be sure that getting projects done on Hazard Ave is high on my list. That and keeping myself sane while doing it.

Speaking of projects, I've withheld pictures of our finished family room from you for far too long. So now without further ado here are the before and afters.

Before...

After.
Before...
 After...
 Before...
After.
Before...
After.
We splurged on a sofa from Lee Industries. The coffee table, aluminum accent table, and side chair were thrift store scores. The antique rug was an online find.
The artwork is gallery of photographs I took on trips to Jamaica, Block Island, and Cape Cod.
A year ago, we converted the fireplace to gas, so all we needed to do during the reno was paint it. We chose "Rock Bottom" by Sherwin Williams. The wallpaper is by Decorator Grasscloth.
The Hot House Flowers pillows were an Etsy purchase, and the chair was reupholstered in Betwixt. Both fabrics are from Celerie Kremble's line for Schumacher and can be purchased here

How's that for starting 2012 with a bang?

(p.s. a special thank you to Casey who helped with the original design!)

I really love this look - it's eclectic and classic at the same time. I don't know which part is my favorite...the wall paper or the fireplace or the rug or the sofa. All of it together really. Great job!

It looks great! I honestly can't put a finger on my favorite thing, although I think way you extended the soffit (?) comes in pretty high on the list. And that grasscloth is just yummy. What a fun way to start the year!

Happy New Year, Carrie!!! So excited to finally see the pics of this room - it was worth the wait!! It's really lovely, such a unique style. Love the mix of patterns and prints. Its crazy how much of a difference just having those floor length drapes makes, huh?! My 2 favorite things are the wallpaper and the fireplace. Painting it dark made it such a focal point. There's definitely a sense of history here mixed with a fresh, young vibe. So happy for you guys!!

Its hard to believe you could accomplish more on the house in '12 that you did in 2011!!

I saw the title of the post and was so excited! It looks spectacular Carrie and was well worth the wait. I bet you guys really enjoyed hanging out in here over the holidays. It's so inviting - especially with the fire going. I love the new look of the fireplace and the photos from your travels are so unique and special. I think you've accomplished your goal of Beacon Hill Brownstone Chic - it's beautiful! Do I spy the House Beautiful Blue book on your coffee table? Would love to know your thoughts on it if you've had time to browse.

I have been following your renovation and everything looks wonderful.........except....*treads carefully.......I am not loving the look of the rug with everything else. Just one opinion from one subscriber. The walls, the gallery wall arrangement, the pillows and fabrics, sofa shape and modern coffee table....ALL FAB!!!!!!

Very impressive changes. The fireplace looks AMAZING now and I really love your artwork. I came over via Rambling Renovators (you & I are both "Great Reads" - isn't that wildly flattering?) and I'm happy I stopped by.

Holy cow what a beautiful room! That sofa is to DIE for! I have been wanting one just like with the same arms, legs, and pale blue velvet fabric...swoon. We don't need it anytime soon but a girl can dream. I know you did a sofa post a while back so I'll have to go back and see where you got it. Please update us on how it holds up/has held up when you get a chance!

I've wandered over from a blog we both visit and found your living room changes. Very nice in deed. I particulary like the pictures of different waters. What a fresh idea, I may have to steal it. I don't normally care for painted brick, but, the look of your black brick fire place is outstanding! The new walls contrast nicely with the white trim. The acrylic coffee table is somewhat unexpected in relation to the other furnishings, but a very nice redo all in all.

It looks so inviting, I could really just grab a glass of wine and a good book and feel quite comfy. As much as I love neutral rooms seeing yours reminded me how much color makes a room look homey. Well done, all your hard work really paid off.

Love it!! As you can tell I'm catching up on your blog. Curious - how do you like your lee industries sofa? Is it worth the splurge?? Is it comfortable? When we get back to the US, I'll be on the market for a new sofa and I've always loved lee industries, but have never owned anything from them.

Carrie @ Hazardous Design said...

Thanks, Fran. We love it. It is deep and comfortable and perfect for napping. My dog has puked on the fabric and it cleaned up nicely. Can't ask for anything else really :)
