I do believe that it's the details that make an ordinary room extraordinary. At least that's what I told Chris in trying to convince him to build a panel for the tub apron.
He loosely followed this tutorial from HGTV to make the panel, substituting plywood and picture molding for beadboard. (We'll protect it by using semi-gloss mildew resistant paint.)Up goes the crown molding.
One of my favorite features is the faux column. To make it, Chris routed the sides of a board and topped it with crown molding. Oooooh! Fancy! That's right. Only the best for our guests.
And of course, here's the chair rail and picture molding he installed last weekend.Just you wait to see what this is all going to look like painted.
Speaking of paint, have you seen this tip yet? Use tinfoil to cover doorknobs to avoid getting paint on them. This is definitely going to make my life easier.

oh it is looking OH SO GOOD!
Y'all do extraordinary work. I can tell your husband is a perfectionist like mine. I just wish I could get mine to add more trim in our house. Going to go vote now.
Wow, you guys really do things right, this is going to be absolutely luxurious when it's done! Congrats on the nomination...I just voted for you!

Looks awesome! I especially like the column.
I was nominated too, good luck!
Ahhhh I'm loving all that trimwork you're adding in there! It gives the bathroom such a custom, high end look. Still dying over the tiled tub surround - it's so yummy!
Looking really good! I'm still trying to convince my hubby to rip out our tub/surround so we can do something similar. Unfortunatly our little bathroom was the first room to reno and we had to do it fast and cheap so we could move in. Someday we'll retackle it!
I want your husband! What a gem. The trim work is going to make this room shine.
Its really starting to come together. Can't wait to see it when its finished!

Carrie, you are so good! If your house could talk, I'm sure it would thank you for taking time to consider all these details. What a difference the bath panel makes.
You've got such a great eye for those details and quite the handyman to get them all together for you too. I also must say that the tile in the tub is looking really great. And going over to cast my vote!
Loving all the trim everywhere, especially around the tub! Congrats on the nomination, I voted for you!
Loving all the trim everywhere, especially around the tub! Congrats on the nomination, I voted for you!
The bathroom is looking spectacular!! Off to vote for you.
Congrats on the nomination! Heading off to vote now.
The bath is looking so good! All the molding work is really giving it a very rich layered look. Thanks for sharing.
Ah this space is looking so good! I love the wainscoting and the column details around the room. The panel in front of the tub fit right in but I'd be worried about using wood where water is could splash over. Have you considered using exterior PVC trim for that portion instead? At least with it only being a guest bath it won't get much use.
That looks awesome! But what about if water spills over the sides of the tub? Will it ruin all your hard work?
Amazing!!! I can't wait to see the picture molding painted. It sounds like you have something fun up your sleeve ;)
It is DEFINITELY coming together!! Does the foil on the doorknob actually work? I saw that on pinterest a while back!

So cool about your nomination! I'll definitely vote for you. :) The bathroom is looking good--soon enough, you'll be to the fun painting part!
Amazing attention to detail! I can't wait to see it all done. You definitely have my vote!! Congrats on the nomination.
That's looking so good! The details really are going to make your bathroom outstanding.
You have such fancy taste. I voted for you Mrs. Fancy Blogger. I'll probably post something on my facebook and/or blog to send people to vote for you too. Because I like voting for things and I like you. The end.
Threeacres and Ashley... the outer trim with the mitered corners is PVC exterior trim (waterproof.) The back panel is plywood with wood picture molding. The top is sealed with silicone caulk. As long as the caulk holds up no moisture should get behind the panel. The plywood and trim inset on the panel have also been caulked and painted with multiple coats of mildew resistant paint.
We will post an update if this becomes a painful "redo." FIngers crossed that it holds up! Time will tell...

This is looking so fantastic. I am on my way to vote for you!
Beautiful job you're doing! I voted for you and thanks for the foil tip! Also, I ordered Bar Keeper's Friend from Amazon as no one around here had it. I can't wait to use it on my grout...did I just say I couldn't wait to spend hours on my hands and knees scrubbing grout? This is a sickness...I may need a support group! LOL! Good luck in the contest.
Fabulous work. Hope you win. HEading over to vote.
Wow. That bathroom is going to look gorgeous. I totally voted for you.

Eek! How have I missed out on so much? The rate at which the two of you get house stuff done is astounding. Really it is. Ok, now I'm off to vote for you, but not before saying that I really can't wait to see how this bathroom turns out.
Camille
Congrats on the nomination! I just voted for you! P.S. Need I mention again how awesome this bathroom is? The woodwork is incredible, and now I want a pretty wood apron around my tub. Thanks!
