Holy Bathmats Batman!
I read a post on Phoebe Howard's blog a couple months ago that completely changed the way I think about bathmats. It got me thinking...why not use real rug in a bathroom?
I think the look will be perfect for our new guest bathroom, but I don't want it to be too traditional. Something bright and colorful will be the perfect compromise.

I felt like a kid in a candy store when I stumbled upon rows and rows of these 2x3 rugs at a local discount store (Building 19 for any New England readers). I selected a tribal Kazak rug from India for 50 bucks. It was so hard to choose just one!

Oh yeah! I can see your guest bath starting to take form and if it includes one of these it's going to be great. I can't imagine having a place like that with those rugs. I get regionalism shopping envy when I see stores like this that PA doesn't have. Have a great weekend Carrie!
i'm always so worried that the rug will mildew underneath without the protective plastic-y stuff underneath. That being said.... i use a regular rug at my kitchen sink and it never mildews.... so why not in the bathroom too! soon i will be doing a little master bathroom update... i see a cute rug in my future :)
Love that idea! Especially in a room that doesn't get as high of traffic and wont have people dripping wet on standing on them. I can't wait to see how your room turns out!
I love a real rug in the bathroom - makes it feel more like a room!! Plus if it gets wet at all you can just hang it over the shower curtain rod or a chair to air dry so it doesn't get mildewy. no probemo

I wish I didn't have to use a bathmat at all - I love my tile floor so much and don't have a lot of space so my bathmat is neutral and usually hangs over the tub. However, if I had a bigger space, thinking beyond the regular bathmat would definitely be a go.
I used to use a regular runner in my bathroom. The nice thing about it was that it stayed put better than the average bath mat. You can always find good deals on 2 X 3 rugs through online sources.
I never thought about it before but it makes sense. Plus, bathmats aren't always the most attractive.
This is probably too far up north for me but a great resource, I am sure. The rug is a great idea it should just not be allowed to get sopping wet..I have seen it done.
I love pretty wool rugs in bathrooms...you have some great choices.
That's a nice idea... I don't think we could pull that off in our current builder grade bathrooms... but, maybe eventually!

Haven't been there in a while, might have to stop by;) Seriously, those are so cool, love the idea of using a real rug in the bathroom...definitely wouldn't have thought of this myself. I have a long "runner" rug from Pottery Barn in my bathroom along our double vanity. It's beautiful and feels good under our feet. In front of the shower I use a regular bath mat (and hang up after each use.)

Bath mats suck. I have two in my bathroom and I don't like them. I'm loving the idea of a runner. Our bathroom is long so it would work great. Thanks for the tip.

Can I be your next guest.....pleeease!? That will be the finishing touch on a great remodel for sure. I use a hotel-like bath floor towel that I drape over the tub to dry between uses. Practical but boring I know!
how on earth have i never heard about Building 19?! Are there other secret boston stores i should know about? One of these locations is only about 10 min from our new place!

I've been loving the real rugs in the bathroom for a lil while now. For Christmas last year, I got my sister a real rug, and some curtains to help her decorate her master bathroom. It looked soo nice. Now I am trying to find some for our 3 bathrooms in our place. Not as easy as it seems.
