It Worked!

We have clean tile and grout! Thanks to all of your helpful suggestions a couple weeks back, I'm here to report that with a little time and elbow grease I got our guest bath tile floor sparkling clean again.

A few people suggested Barkeeper's Friend. I already had some in the house, so that's what I tried first.  Did you know it also makes stainless steel look like new???

I made a slurry of Barkeeper's Friend and water. Working in small sections, I poured it over the floor and let it sit for a few minutes. Then using a stiff bristled brush, I worked it into the grout and rinsed it off with a clean rag. It worked like a charm!
Now we just have to reseal the floor like a couple of other commenters suggested.

Great job! I bet you got an arm workout scrubbing all that tile! It looks great. Completely worth it!

I was one of the Barkeeper's Friend suggesters, and I'm really happy that it worked for you! The tile looks brand new!

Looks great! I love that pattern. I'm glad we did not have to do this with our bathroom floors - ours are terrazzo, which means they were sunk right into concrete, no grout - but also no way in getting them out easy. Glad I like them so much ;)

It looks great Carrie! I'm so happy for you that you didn't have to take more extreme measures (like regrouting!) Yay.

Halleluyah!!! I'm going out to buy some right now! I went to the hardware store the other day and asked them and they sold me something called X-14 which I haven't tried yet and may return if the barkeepers works which it certainly looks like it did! Beautiful tile and CLEAN GROUT!!!! Yey!!!!!! Great job and thanks for the tip!

Sweet!! I'll have to remember this. Now don't ever go in there again and you won't have to scrub again!

I'm such a dork, but I *love* clean grout! It's such a time consuming project, but it looks like a whole new room after (c:

I tried baking soda and water on a couple of grout lines in my bathroom and it worked well..but I had to scrub a little harder than I wanted. Bar Keepers it is!

And here I thought all along that there was no cure for nasty grout. I stand corrected--and that's a good thing! Yay for clean floors! :)

LOVE that tile. Thanks for the tip. I need to try that on our bathrooms next week. I did some major cleaning but it hasn't done the trick. Glad to know I have some Barkeeper's Friend in my laundry room.

Awesome! I'm so glad this worked for you. We have 3 rooms with nasty stained grout (makes our floors look like mcdonalds floors in my opinion). I CANT WAIT to try this out for myself. Thanks for the tip!!
