Sail Away

I've been obsessed with paintings of sailboats lately and someday I'd love to have a whole gallery wall in my house full of them.  Instead of hoarding actual paintings, I've been hoarding photos of them.
I saw this painting at a gallery in Newport, RI recently. It was an original and priced in the thousands. Needless to say, it was out of my price range.
Same with this one. Beautiful though...
Here's one I saw at an antique store. I think it was around $50. I didn't love it, so I didn't get it.
This is one that I saw at HomeGoods for around $85. That little certificate in the corner says it is an an authentic-original-hand-painted-work-of-art. Loved the painting, hated the frame.
So I'm still holding out.

Paintings are so hard to find. Luckily it is garage sale season.

I loved the one from HomeGoods. I wonder if you could lighten the frame somehow? I just think that a frame for a sailboat should be light and airy not heavy. Silverleaf???

You'd love it at my grand-parents house. My grandfather was in the navy so there are tons of sail boat paintings and one was done by his great-great something another and even made it onto the antique roadshow years ago!
I love the sailboat prints for events like the America's cup and will hopefully add something like that to Desmond's new room.

I have always loved sailboats and nautical touches too. keep holding out- you'll come across the one you love when you least expect it! (That always happens to me!) :)

You know, for never actually having been in your house, I still feel like sailboats would totally fit... Very cool. :)

I actually really like the frame from HomeGoods but I think it's way too dark. Maybe if you painted it white it would work.

How could you live in RI and not be in love with sailboats. Good luck on your search.

Great paintings - try ebay under original art - might just get lucky!

I hate it when HomeGoods doesn't consult me first before framing things (c: It's hard to cough up $85 bucks for something you know you're going to have to switch up! Good luck on the hunt, girl!

Good for you for practicing restraint! Sailboat artwork would look so nice in your home too.

I do like that last one from Home Goods. It's best to hold out for the right one though. You'll find it.

I can see a nice collection of these in your beautiful home. I didn't know HomeGoods sells original work..but yeah that frame is not working.

I love sailboats too - and how lucky are you to shop in Newport! I LOVE that town. I haven't been there in almost 10 years and am due for a trip back! Good luck deciding on the painting!

I love any kind of seascape. I think you should absolutely start a collection!

So...this post reminds me of two things. I can't get this song from my childhood out of my head now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wugMvwI0d4E

And, it also makes me think of one my favorite bathrooms from Lonny with a pretty sailboat seascape.

Hope you don't mind my reminiscing!
