Newport Neighborhood Home Tour

This past Sunday Chris and I attended the Newport Neighborhood Home tour and it did not disappoint. There was a strict no photo policy, so I'm going to have to get creative in sharing some of the homes with you all...
My favorite was the Gray Craig estate. During the tour Chris overheard some people saying the home was previously owned by Nicolas Cage. Come again???
So you know I had to Google it when we got home. According to the Providence Business News, Cage purchased it for $15,700,000 in 2007 and sold it for $6,200,000 last year. Ouch.
Here are some images from the real estate listing (view more here).
The decor looks much different today (and in my opinion, more tasteful. Sorry Nick).

Moving on to Chepstow, a mansion owned and maintained by the Newport Preservation Society. It, and all its furnishings, were bequeathed to the Preservation Society in 1986. Today it looks much the same as it did in 1986--lots of florals, antiques, & ruffles. More info available here.
Lastly, here's one more house on the tour that I'm able to find interior images of online.
If you like this one, you are in luck because it's for sale. Asking price is $3,350,000. (See listing here).

Did anyone who lives locally attend the tour?

Thank you to Roselle McConnell, Co-Chair of the Neighborhood of Newport House Tour for providing passes to Chris and I. We hope to see you next year!

I should have chosen to take vacation early so I could do the tour. The one I attended in the fall had a no photo policy and I was bummed because there were some really beautiful rooms. One of my favorite magazines is New England Home - I love looking at all of the homes and the architectural details.

My husband and I were there as well! I loved Starboard House, and the way that family modernized the home while maintaining the elegance of the house. I also LOVED the last home that was for sale - what an amazing view!

I missed this! I've only been down to Newport once - took my out of state mom to Breakers. Looks like I need to head down more often.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice job. I hate the no photos rule... we have it in Newport Beach too.

So I'm generally pretty proud of living in the south and think that there's no way that I would want to live anywhere else. That is, until you show me pictures of your home tours and I think "there are no homes withing 150 miles of me that compare to that." Then I want to move to Connecticut

I *LOVE* home tours! And I'm working on scraping together the 3.5 mil for that last house...(c: Maybe Nick could spot me the money??? Oh wait, I forgot he's *TERRIBLE* with money (c:

why don't you just buy the 3.5 million dollar home? it would save you having to deal with all those silly contractors and tradesmen.....
